6/28/2023 0 Comments Stephen king the stand 2020Most key to this whole endeavor are Goldberg and Skarsgård, who play Abagail Freemantle and Randall Flagg, respectively: one side light, the other side dark. Boone and Cavell assemble a similarly stacked roster for their version, turning to actors who might already be familiar to fans of King adaptations (Owen Teague, of the latest film versions of “It” and “It Chapter Two”), legends in their own right (Whoopi Goldberg, adding welcome brusqueness), a number of “Hey! That guy!” guys (James Marsden, Greg Kinnear, Eion Bailey), and the deliciously threatening Alexander Skarsgård, combining the sensuality of his Eric Northman from “True Blood” and the impenetrable malice of his Vernon Sloane from the thriller “Hold the Dark.” Nearly all of King’s novels have been adapted in one way or another, and “The Stand” miniseries has a precursor of its own: a 1994 version broadcast on ABC with a deep cast of TV and movie stars of that time, including Gary Sinise, Rob Lowe, Jamey Sheridan, Ruby Dee, Laura San Giacomo, and Molly Ringwald.

6/28/2023 0 Comments Thomas mann faustusWorks like Zauberberg and Doktor F austus, in particular, belong to this vein. In contrast, his didacticism is refreshing. They are remarkable because Mann wrote at a time when it was so easy not to be these things–his was the age of surrealism, absurdism, symbol and neo-Romanticism, and many of his contemporaries were falling away from reality. His works, read from the perspective of early 20th-century Europe, are ideological, painful, inescapably overt. Thomas Mann is the most unflinching of writers. The quotations are from the estimable John Woods translations, with occasional edits of my own. Rather longer and more academic than most posts here. Various thoughts on the worldviews, music, and endings of Thomas Mann’s Doktor Faustus and The Magic Mountain ( Der Zauberberg), inspired by studying for my German Comps. Second, there's a little critter called a "Fird", who is from a book called "Whoever Heard of a Fird?" If you haven't heard of a fird, part fish, part bird, you don't know that he's looking for a herd of fird. He was somewhat similar to his 80's cousin, Teddy Ruxpin. These four brothers could give JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood a run for their money on disfunctionality. Loving the Mackenzies isn’t easy, because, well, let’s be honest. I fell hard for the Mackenzie brothers with the introduction of Lord Ian in the first book and kept falling with Mac’s story in the second. But don't mind her, that's just a little of––hopefully healthy––stage fright. Heck, she's probably full on freaking out. She's probably biting her nails as you read this. While she'd never describe herself as adventurous, having a degree in chemical engineering and being the Monica of her group of friends, this definitely qualifies as the most exciting yet terrifying project she has ever taken on. Her books are being translated to over 30 languages––which is bananas, if you ask her.Īfter years of devouring stories and posting––sometimes yelling––about them on her (books)tagram she finally took the leap and started creating some of her own. And her growing attraction for Gage and her realization of her love him doesn't make things easier for her as her past disastrous marriage continuously haunts her arousing suspicions and doubts. It is a pure struggle for her to come to terms of her past and to find her lost innocence and happiness. Her previous abusive marriage has left her broken. Lady Darby, as I've mentioned in my previous review, is an unusual choice of a heroine. But what really arrested and held my interest is the character development of the main duo, Lady Darby and Sebastian Gage. There is good murder-mystery in this installment too, and I did enjoy it. But undoubtedly the strongest point of the series is its recurring characters, especially the main duo Lady Darby and Sebastian Gage. And there is an easy and smooth flow to the stories which show that she takes care in its execution. It seems Anna Huber has taken a good amount of time to research and plan the plot. The mystery plots are based on unusual themes. This series is unlike anything I read before. This is the third installment of the series, and it is getting better with each installment. |
